Ironworkers Apprenticeship Program
WDI provided a grant to fund 270 hours of instruction for the local Ironworkers, enabling 32 apprentices to receive instruction and continue on the path to becoming Ironworkers. This funding was critical to the union and the region, as there are a number of planned construction projects that will require trained ironworkers.
City of Newburgh
WDI worked with City planning officials on an effort to determine skills requirements for open positions, skills gaps, and possible training to transition unemployed workers into new jobs. This effort is ongoing.
Careers in Health Care
WDI partnered with the Dutchess County One-Stop and the Dutchess County WIB to provide a Healthcare Career Forum aimed at community college students, the unemployed, and individuals considering a career in healthcare. A panel of Human Resource Directors from local employers provided information about their facilities, hiring practices, and future needs. Break-out sessions covered interviewing skills and resume preparation, a day-in-the-life of a Certified Nursing Assistant, and how to draft a healthcare education and career plan.
