REDCOM Laboratories, located in Ontario County, designs, manufactures, and provides customers with telecommunications hardware and software application solutions and provides design and manufacturing services for customer products through its Electronics Manufacturing Services business. Following a growing effort to re-shore manufacturing to the United States, REDCOM is striving to become a significant manufacturing facility for a number of small businesses locally and regionally. To help the company increase its competitiveness in the medical market and beyond, WDI provided funding to help the company obtain ISO-13485 certification, and train internal ISO auditors to work with the rest of the company’s 140 employees on an ongoing basis.

The project proved to be an overwhelming success for the company, resulting in skill development for 14 employees, 2 new hires, and 4 promotions. The timing of the project also proved to be prescient: since the certification pertains directly to medical devices, the project allowed REDCOM to provide devices to aid with the testing and equipment used for the New York State response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Feedback from multiple WDI Regional Directors in recent months indicates that there is a desire and need for ISO training in the NYS manufacturing sector; the results of projects like this certainly speak to the efficacy of obtaining certification. REDCOM’s outcome survey also spoke to both the efficacy of WDI’s services (“the [WDI] grant program is essential for small businesses to minimize the variable costs of being a manufacturer in the states.”) as well as the “hard work and dedication of REDCOM employees to push through very difficult times to obtain the certification and meet the demands of customers under extreme global uncertainty”.

We are glad we could help with this effort, and congratulate REDCOM on certification and ongoing success.
