A software programming course sponsored by Albany Can Code, a new nonprofit pushing for a new generation of software coders, kicks off later this month at Schenectady County Community College.

The class, which starts Oct. 24, represents the first of many that Albany Can Code hopes to launch in the Capital Region to fill a huge gap in the number of local qualified software coders, an issue that has been vexing local employers for years now, with an estimated 1,800 coder jobs going unfilled due to a labor shortage.
